~ Gypsy's
Shiny Diner served it's first meal at 6:09 am on September 30,1997 before a standing-room
only crowd. On opening day we served over 1500 customers!!
~ Gypsy's
is locally owned & operated by Gypsy Gilliam (yes that's really her name).
Gypsy is a long time Cary resident and takes pride in operating her flag ship
"dream diner" as she calls it.
~ Gypsy's was only the second
restaurant to be open "24 hours" on Friday & Saturday nights and
has been that way since it's opening in 1997
~ Gypsy's was constructed
in Florida and trucked to NC on 6 over-sized tarctor-trailers up I-95 and then
onto I-40. Once the trucks reached the NC border, they were met by 2 state highway
patrol cars for an escort (required by NC law for super over sized loads). Once
the diner reached Cary, NC, the state patrol assisted the Cary police department
in stopping traffic while an over-sized crane set the diner on its foundation,
a true sight to see!!!
~ Gypsy's has "original" 1950's &
60's jukebox 45's spinning all the time either at our Seeburg jukebox or at your
table.
~ Gypsy's Shiny Diner has been the site of: 19 marriage proposals.
